Chocolate malt drinks are highly popular in Southeast Asia and are sometimes enjoyed with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. As such, they are given fanciful names like “Milo Dinosaur” and “Milo Godzilla”.

As Malaysians, chocolate malt drinks are synonymous to our childhood. We enjoyed it hot or cold any time of the day and even when we are feeling under the weather. These drinks energized us as well as helped chase the blues away.
I clearly remember the times I was served a cup of plain chocolate malt drink when I was unwell during my childhood. Of course, that was not much fun as the real deal of chocolate malt drinks is to have them cold and sweet. Here, I have two recipes of popular chocolate malt drinks sold in Malaysian eateries.
The most popular chocolate malt brand that is sold in Malaysia is Milo which is also widely available in Australia. “Milo Dinosaur” is served with heaps of chocolate malt powder on it whilst “Milo Godzilla” is topped with whipped cream and/or vanilla ice cream. These heaps of chocolate malt powder are added to give extra crunch to the drinks.
As the recipes are pretty straight-forward, you just have to try them to experience their deliciousness. If you are not able to find Milo, seek out Ovaltine or make your own chocolate malt drinks by combining malt powder, instant milk powder and sugar (optional).
How to Prepare
Step 1 of 2
- 150 ml water
